The Evolution of a Successful International Education Program at a Community College

Abstract

This chapter documents the history of International Education at Shoreline Community College. Rather than capturing every detail, the chapter intends to highlight major leadership themes that have contributed to the success of the program for over fifty years. Fifty years of history is organized through several periods where leadership themes are highlighted. The conclusion of the chapter integrates these themes in a summary to argue for an overall evolving leadership strategy for community colleges. These themes are argued to be applicable for various projects to assist community colleges in developing and transforming institutions to better meet the needs of a diverse community and student body.
