Abstract: Evolutionary transitions between individual and colonial organisms remain enigmatic. Siphonophores, abundant pelagic cnidarians, exhibit a complex colony structure composed of repeated individual (zooid) clusters called cormidia. Many siphonophores release their posterior-most cormidia as independent fragments known as eudoxids, ensuring sexual reproduction.
