The flicker electroretinogram interocular amplitude ratio is a strong prognostic indicator of neovascularization in patients with central retinal vein occlusion

Abstract: Interocular comparison of amplitude is a good solution for avoiding the variability of ERG. An interocular amplitude ratio of flicker ERG of 60% is a succinct, useful parameter in clinical practices for differentiating ischemic from nonischemic CRVO.

“…The latency of the 30-Hz flicker in ffERG is reported to be useful in predicting the occurrence of new vessels in CRVO. 13,14,34,35 In our patients, we encountered five eyes with ischemic CRVO that showed no new vessels on fluorescein angiography. These eyes had lower amplitudes, particularly in PhNR, which represents inner retinal dysfunction.…”

“…Clinical Findings and Ancillary Studies, below). It was also reported that interocular amplitude difference of 23 µV and interocular amplitude ratio of 60% on 30 Hz flicker ERG could be also used as cut-off points to differentiate between iCRVO and non-iCRVO (161) (see section VI. Clinical…”
