The G protein database, GproteinDb

Abstract: Two-thirds of signaling substances, several sensory stimuli and over one-third of drugs act via receptors coupling to G proteins. Here, we present an online platform for G protein research with reference data and tools for analysis, visualization and design of scientific studies across disciplines and areas. This platform may help translate new pharmacological, structural and genomic data into insights on G protein signaling vital for human physiology and medicine. The G protein database is accessible at https… Show more

“…the different protein forms that can arise combinatorially from a single gene as a result of alternative splicing, coding sequence variants and post-translational modifications. Elsewhere, the GproteinDb ( 37 ) curates a wealth of information, especially information on the selectivity of their coupling to GPCRs, for a family of great importance to therapeutic design. Among databases reporting updates is PRIDE ( 38 ) where around 500 proteomics datasets are processed each month.…”

“…All source values are available in tab ‘Fig_4’ in Spreadsheet S5. Note: Researchers wishing to use this coupling map, optionally after applying own reliability criteria or cut-offs, can do so for any set of couplings in GproteinDb (5).…”

“…For example, analysis of G i/o -mediated signaling in the brain could focus on G o and G z based on their high expression, and the fact that G o and G z have quicker and slower nucleotide exchange, respectively than other member of this family. Such separate meta-analysis of G proteins may be facilitated by the filtering options in the coupling maps in Spreadsheet S5 and online in the G protein couplings browser in GproteinDb (5).…”
