“…This may be necessary in some cell types that the virus infects. The ratios of IE0 and IE-1 also affect baculovirus host specificity (Lu and Iatrou, 1996;Pearson and Rohrmann, 1997;Stewart et al, 2005) and thus PNK/PNL may be playing a role in specificity through RNA splicing.…”

“…to deduce whether or not transcriptional activation of early (and late) BmNPV genes occurs. The RT-PCR analyses encompassed detection of transcripts originating from three early genes, ie1 (39), he65 (8), and ie0, the only baculovirus gene whose transcript contains an excisable intron (the splicing event involves the use of the splicing junction of the ie0 to the ie1 exon early in baculovirus infection and results in the addition of new N-terminal sequences to the IE1 transactivator [50]), as well as two late genes, p39 (53,75) and pol (41). Because of the lack of intronic sequences, which could enable an easy distinction between amplification of cDNA and genomic DNA, in all but the ie0 gene, all RNA preparations were treated with RNase-free DNase prior to PCR.…”

“…In AcMNPV and BmNPV, the cg30 promoter is shown to be present within the ORF of vp39, a major capsid protein gene (Thiem and Miller, 1989;Lu and Iatrou, 1996;Katsuma et al, 2011b). This suggests that insertional mutations of cg30 may have effect on vp39 transcription, presumably leading to aberrant BV and OB production.…”

“…The cg30 genes of Autographa californica NPV (AcMNPV) and Bombyx mori NPV (BmNPV) are expressed as delayed early genes (Thiem and Miller, 1989;Lu and Iatrou, 1996) and encode a 30-kDa protein with two putative functional domains, a RING finger motif and a leucine zipper motif (Thiem and Miller, 1989). To investigate the roles of cg30 during NPV infection, gene-knockout studies have been performed in AcMNPV and BmNPV.…”
