The histological changes induced by cytarabine on rabbits kidneys (with and without vitamin E administration)

Abstract: The present study was designed to determine the histological changes induced by Cytarabine drug on the structure of rabbits kidneys and the protective effects of vitamin E on these histological changes. The treated group with daily intraperitoneal dose of (50 mg/kg body weight) of Cytarabine alone, showed a massive histological changes represented by renal tubular necrosis, glomerular atrophy and enlarged urinary spaces (widening of Bowman's spaces), infiltration of lymphocytes and macrophages within interstit… Show more

“…For bacterial isolation, the cleaned tissues were weighted firstly and homogenized with an equal amount of 1 % PBS (w/v) in 1.5 ml standard centrifuge tubes using electric miller (Coyote, China) and followed by two-fold serial dilutions in micro well plates and then cultured on blood agar as mentioned before. For histopathological study, cleaned tissues of the removed organs were fixed in 10 % formaldehyde for a week and then processed with H&E staining protocol (23)(24)(25)(26).…”

“…Cytosine is normally combining with a (deoxyribose sugar) to form deoxycytidine, which is a DNA component. Cytosine arabinoside is nearly similar to the cytosine deoxyribose (deoxycytidine) of the human to be incorporated inside human DNA but sufficiently different to terminate malignant cells, finally cancer cells would be killed by this mechanism (5). Acute liver injury (hepatotoxicity) is one of the most popular forms of hepatic diseases that could occur as consequences of cytotoxic treatment (6).…”

“…On the 7th and 14th day of the exposure cloudy swelling, hypertrophy and pycnotic nucleus in the glial cells were evident. Cloudy swelling is considered a pathological response characterized by clouding and swelling of the cell cytoplasm due to damage to the cellular membranes involved in ionic transfer (33). Cloudy swelling was reported in many studies about the effects of pesticides on fish species and organophosphates, like DZN, were among these pesticides (34,35).…”
