The Impact of Software Testing on Serverless Applications

Abstract

With the increasing prevalence of serverless-based applications, a conspicuous gap has emerged in comprehensive insights into the ramifications of serverless technology in software testing. This study aims to bridge this gap by scrutinizing the intricate interplay between software testing and serverless applications. The study's overarching objectives include discerning the multifaceted challenges and constraints encountered in testing serverless applications and the formulation of a cogent testing strategy that delineates the optimal balance between unit, integration, and end-to-end tests within the context of serverless applications. To achieve these objectives, the research adopts a multifaceted approach, including interviews with seasoned industry experts boasting over a decade of experience. These experts serve as invaluable sources of insight into the intricate dynamics of software testing in the serverless landscape. The research findings highlight the increased complexity of testing serverless applications, urging software teams to embrace a shift-left approach and cultivate a deep understanding of the overarching services and their constraints before formulating a testing strategy.
