The INFINITY Total Ankle Prosthesis: Outcomes at Short-Term Follow-up

Abstract: Background The INFINITY total ankle prothesis remains the most widely used fourth-generation total ankle arthroplasty (TAA) system in the United States. The purpose of the present study was to assess radiographic outcomes for INFINITY at short-term follow-up. Methods All patients who underwent primary TAA with INFINITY between August 2015 and June 2018 at a single institution and who were at least 1 year postoperative were included. A total of 55 ankles with a mean follow up 22 months (range, 12-43 months) met… Show more

“…At a mean of 7.1 years of follow-up, survivorship for this third-generation, 2-component TAA prosthesis was 93.7%, a rate that compares favorably to midterm outcomes of other TAA prostheses. [18][19][20]24 Overall, coronal and sagittal tibiotalar alignment significantly improved after surgery (P = .081 and P = .15, respectively) by an average of 3.3 ± 3.4 degrees and 4%, respectively. At the most recent followup, alignment maintenance was observed with an average TTA of 2.6 ± 2.2 degrees and TTR of 36%.…”

“…Several newer implants, such as the INFINITY and the INBONE, do not appear in our analysis. 40 , 50 , 52 Future research should assess the influence of studies of these modern implants on the ankle arthroplasty literature.…”

“…The tibial resurfacing component is made of titanium alloy and presents three angled pegs, whilst the talar component has two pegs and is made of cobalt chrome alloy. The INFINITY TAA can be implanted using a CT scan-derived PSI through the PROPHECY Preoperative Navigation System (Wright Medical Technology Inc)[ 5 , 6 ].…”
