“…Moreover, Van Dyke, Bailey & Buey (1929) 3rd ventricle. Such light-microscopical studies on both mammals and sub-mammalian vertebrates have been published by Hild (1951), Bargmann (1954Bargmann ( , 1955, Stutinsky (1953), Okamoto (1957), Talanti & Kivalo (1961), Eichner (1963) and Dierickx (1964), and many of the authors suggest that the neurosecretory material is secreted into the CSF. These light-microscopical findings are supported by electron-microscopical investigations (Brightman & Palay, 1963;Smoller, 1965;Nishioka, Bern & Mewaldt, 1964;Leonhardt & Lindner, 1967).…”

“…an inhibitory feed back mechanism for ADH exists. ADH activity in the cerebrospinal fluid has been reported (Hoyle, 1933;Talanti & Kivalo, 1961;Heller & Ginsburg, 1966). However, it would be premature to suggest that this 'feed back' mechanism is operative in the abnormal physio-pathological states associated with high circulatory levels of ADH.…”

“…Similar observations were made by Bargmann (1957) in the neurohypophysis of the cat, and Bargmann & Knoop (1960) described nerve fibres containing the neurosecretory ' elementary granules ' entering the pars distalis and pars intermedia. Evidence is also available that neurones pass to the floor of the third ventricle from the hypothalamic nuclei (Bargmann & Scharrer, 1951;Rodriguez, 1964;Ito, 1965), and both light microscopic observations (Bargmann, 1955;Talanti & Kivalo, 1961) and electron microscopic investigations (Brightman & Palay, 1963;Smoller, 1965;Leonhardt & Lindner, 1967) suggest that these fibres contain neurosecretory material. These morphological observations are supported by the findings of Heller, Hasan & Saifi (1968) that vasopressin can be released into the cerebrospinal fluid under certain experimental conditions.…”
