Survey of hymenoptera parasitoids of pink-hibiscus-mealybug, Maconellicoccus hirsutus (Green, 1908) infesting Hibiscus rosa-sinensis was conducted in two municipalities of state of São Paulo, Brazil from August 2016 to August 2017. Nine species of chalcidoid wasps were obtained: Anagyrus kamali Moursi (1948); Anagyrus sp. aff. mirtesae Noyes and Menezes (2000); Anagyrus sp.; Bothriocraera bicolor Compere and Zinna (1955); Cheiloneurus sp., Gyranusoidea deionae Noyes (2000); Prochiloneurus sp. (Encyrtidae); Aprostocetus sp. (Eulophidae); and Chartocerus sp. (Signiphoridae). Anagyrus kamali and G. deionae were the most frequent species, corresponding to 67.26% and 22.62% of the parasitoids, respectively. Bothriocraera bicolor, Chartocerus and G. deionae are recorded for the first time associated with M. hirsutus. Gyranusoidea deionae and B. bicolor are recorded for the first time in Brazil. The seasonal study of M. hirsutus and its parasitoids was carried out in January to December 2017on 16 hibiscus plants, aligned in the hedge in the experimental area of the FCAV/UNESP in Jaboticabal, SP. For this purpose, ovisacs, nymphs and adults of mealybug were counting on infested plants and the adult parasitoids collected in Möerick traps. Maconellicoccus hirsutus was observed during the periods of January-March and October-December, with the highest infestation in January and February. In the traps, a total of 92 specimens of pink-mealybug parasitoids were obtained: 65% belonging to A. kamali and 35% to G. deionae.

Maconellicoccus hirsutus Green, 1908 (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae) is an introduced pest that threatens fruit and ornamental plant production in Brazil. Reported in Brazil for the first time in 2010, in the state of Roraima, M. hirsutus, has spread rapidly to other regions of the country. The objective of this study was to investigate the biology of M. hirsutus on Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L. (Malvaceae) leaves in laboratory conditions with climatic parameters similar to those of the Brazilian North and Northeast (27 ± 1 °C, 60 ± 10% relative humidity and 12 hours light and 12 hours dark). Eighty M. hirsutus nymphs were individualized on rooted H. rosa-sinensis leaves and their survival, mortality, sex ratio, and egg numbers per female emerged were recorded. Maconellicoccus hirsutus can have up to nine generations per year, taking 6.5 days to double its population size. The female numbers of this pest are about three times higher than those for its male counterparts, with 98 eggs per female and 97% viability. The survival curve of the species is type I, that is, mortality rates are higher in adulthood. Maconellicoccus hirsutus, especially, a pest of fruit trees and ornamental plants, presents great potential for population growth in Brazilian tropical conditions. Key words: Climate. Life table. Quarantine pest.Resumo: Maconellicoccus hirsutus Green, 1908 (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae) é uma praga introduzida que ameaça a produção de frutas e plantas ornamentais no Brasil. Registrada no Brasil pela primeira vez em 2010, no estado de Roraima, M. hirsutus se espalhou rapidamente para outras regiões do país. O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar a biologia de M. hirsutus em folhas de Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L. (Malvaceae), em condições de laboratório com parâmetros climáticos semelhantes aos das regiões Norte e Nordeste do Brasil (27 ± 1 °C, 60 ± 10 % de umidade relativa e 12 h de luz e 12 h de escuro). Oitenta ninfas de M. hirsutus foram individualizadas em folhas enraizadas de H. rosa-sinensis e sua sobrevivência, mortalidade, razão sexual e número de ovos por fêmea foram registrados. Maconellicoccus hirsutus pode ter até nove gerações por ano, levando 6,5 dias para dobrar o tamanho da população. O número de fêmeas é cerca de três vezes maior que o número de machos, com oviposição média de 98 ovos por fêmea e 97% de viabilidade. A curva de sobrevivência dessa espécie é do tipo I, ou seja, as taxas de mortalidade são maiores na fase adulta. Maconellicoccus hirsutus, praga de árvores frutíferas e plantas ornamentais, apresenta grande potencial de crescimento populacional nas condições tropicais brasileiras.Palavras-chave: Clima. A study conducted in the agricultural fields of Vadodara documented the incidence of Maconellicoccus hirsutus as one of the growing pests of the city. Hence the objective is to study the behavior of the pest to come out with an eco-friendly control measure before it crosses the economic injury level. Regular visits were made to different agricultural fields and community gardens of Vadodara to study the morphology, biology, distribution of the pest and its relation with its biotic and abiotic factors for a period of two years i.e. April 2013-April 2015. The type & extent of damage on different host plants was also studied. Major infestation was evidenced from Annona squamosa followed by Hibiscus rosa-sinensis with significant infestation on Gossypium hirsutum. Adult females and nymphs were recorded to be the major infesting stages. Extent of damage was found maximum during winter months i.e. from November to February. Moreover, Mealy-ant association is a unique behavior reported which they employ for mutual benefit. Use of chemical pesticides prevails in the city which could be a probable reason for growing mealybug population. Hence such studies hold the base of IPM and needed to design an eco-friendly way for controlling the pest.
