“…Evaluations of the core community service have shown that offender managers value their training in managing complex behaviour, rates of recall are reduced and compliance of offenders can be increased. In addition, research has shown that better understanding of offenders through psychological formulation has led to offenders accessing services where previously they were at an impasse (Brown et al, ; Bruce et al, ; Clark and Chuan, ; Minoudis et al, 2012a, 2012b, 2013). These studies are small, do not have robust control groups and ultimately do not measure the two main outcomes of reduced reoffending and improved psychological well‐being.…”

“…One regional implementation of this national initiative, the London Pathways Project (LPP), entails the deployment of Clinical and Forensic Psychologists to work with probation officers who have a special interest in personality disorder, jointly working with all frontline probation staff to identify cases with personality disorder, and to offer case formulation, and consultation about case management (Minoudis, Shaw, & Craissati, 2012). The Portman Clinic's Clinical Supervision Project was commissioned by the London Probation Trust as part of LPP to provide specific forums where probation staff could safely reflect on the 'relational and emotional demands' of working with high-risk or challenging offenders.…”

“…At the time of this study the implementation of the OPD strategy was still in its infancy and the exact operationalisation of constructs and the procedures around CF (now generally accepted to be through a process of consultation, see e.g. Minoudis, Shaw, & Craissati, 2012) were under development. However, we would therefore argue that the background of our participants was sufficiently close to those who are now in receipt of the CF process, given their diagnosis, location and experience with Probation.…”
