The long non-coding RNA NEAT1 regulates epithelial to mesenchymal transition and radioresistance in through miR-204/ZEB1 axis in nasopharyngeal carcinoma

Abstract: Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play a critical role in cancer progression, including in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). However, it is still poorly understood whether lncRNA regulates epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) and radioresistance of NPC cells. We found that lncRNA NEAT1 was significantly upregulated in NPC cell lines and tissues. Knockdown of NEAT1 could sensitize NPC cells to radiation in vitro. Further investigation found that NEAT1 regulated radioresistance by modulating EMT phenotype. Furt… Show more

“…Several lncRNAs were shown to be associated with NPC and indicate poor prognosis, including LINC00312 23, H19 41, NEAT1 42, HNF1A-AS1 43, HOTAIR 44, AFAP1-AS1 34 and lncRNA-LET 45. LINC01420 is a new lncRNA which is firstly reported in this paper.…”

“…Interestingly, enforced expression of ZEB1 restored the effects of NEAT1 on radiosensitivity and EMT phenotype. Thus, NEAT1 regulated EMT phenotype and radio-resistance by modulating the miR-204/ZEB1 axis in NPC [85]. LncRNA X inactivate-specific transcript (XIST) acts as an important regulator in tumor progression, and dysregulation of XIST was closed related to tumor initiation, growth and progression [86, 87].…”

“…NEAT1 can also be induced by poly I:C triggered by the toll-like receptor3-p38 pathway after infection with virus (13). Previous studies have shown that NEAT1 is an oncogene in various cancers, such as urinary bladder cancer, colorectal cancer, and nasopharyngeal carcinoma (14)(15)(16)(17). In addition to lncRNA, many tumor pathways have been shown to play an important role in glioma progression and invasion.…”
