The Management of Indoor Thermal Comfort with Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract: In this study, real-time monitoring and control platform based on thermal comfort was developed to control space heating in living spaces. To calculate the thermal comfort level in a living space, environmental factors such as indoor air temperature, mean radiant temperature, air velocity, and humidity are needed. In order to obtain the environmental factors, sensor nodes based on wireless sensor networks were developed. According to the data obtained from the sensor nodes, the thermal comfort index was calcul… Show more

“…The warmness of an object can be used as a substantial source of energy for powering sensor nodes in an on-body IoT network. The chunk of energy during the process of metabolism (1 Met = 58.15 W/m 2 ) relies on the measure of muscular activity [35,36]. Given the amount of thermal energy input, an appropriate design of thermal energy harvesting (TEH) architecture with a thermoelectric generator (TEG) can be constructed.…”

“…These sensors are beginning to be very common and are sometimes called the internet-of-things devices. Zigbee is one of the WSN which is suitable to form a real-time control system [35]. Zigbee can form a mesh network capable of giving fault-tolerant capability and sufficient data transmission distance from a distributed indoor controller [36].…”
