The Mangrove Forest at the Bucatu Lagoon, Northeast Brazil: Structural Characterization and Anthropic Impacts

Abstract: We investigated the Bucatú microbasin in order to characterize the structure and composition of its surrounding mangrove area by recording the main anthropic interferences on the vegetation. This study was performed along 10 plots (1000 m 2 in total), perpendicular to the estuarine canal. Deposition and accumulation of sediments on the plants root system were evaluated using auger holes and photographs. Assoreamento na área de mangue e alterações do fluxo hídrico na bacia de drenagem do rio Bucatú são os princ… Show more

“…Forest regeneration leads to modifications in species composition and vegetation structure (Berger and Wolff 2010), and many studies have used phytosociology to recognize and classify the resulting patterns (e.g. Kjerfve et al 1997;Santos et al 1997;Souza and Sampaio 2001;Dahdouh-Guebas et al 2002;Matni et al 2006;Hollowell 2009;Barbosa 2010;Kilca et al 2010;Satyanarayana et al 2010;Maia and Coutinho 2012;Alves et al 2013;Aung et al 2013;Souza and Sampaio 2013;Bernini et al 2014;Schmiegelow and Gianesella 2014).…”
