Abstract:A full finite element analysis of the heat transfer in an engine is often expensive in both computer and manpower costs. Hence the use of simplifying assumptions is often necessary. In this paper the heat conduction in an automotive diesel engine cylinder block has been examined using both three-dimensional and two-dimensional axisymmetric models to determine whether it is feasible to use the simpler axisymmetric models. It is found that a series of axisymmetric models gives a good approximation to the three… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
