“…With a different electromechanical morcellator in common use, it was necessary to extract the pieces of the uterine body vaginally. 6 Removal of the morcellated tissue for myomectomy or supracervical hysterectomy via posterior culdotomy was also necessary with the morcellator described by Donnez. 7 We were able to further optimize laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy by developing a new morcellator after we analyzed the requirements for an improved device and conducted in vitro and in vivo investigations on prototypes provided by the manufacturer (Karl Storz GmbH, Tuttlingen, Germany).…”

“…1,2 The particular benefits 3,4 they offer are well documented: minimal traumatic effect on the tissue, fewer postoperative complications, shorter convalescence and better cosmetic results, 5 shorter hospital stays and financial savings, 6 proven patient benefits, 7 and a lower rate of postoperative adhesions. 8 The result is that complex interventions involving the resection of large amounts of tissue, such as hysterectomy or myomectomy, are now performed endoscopically as standard procedures, if indicated, rather than with laparotomy.…”

“…Early case series reported mini-laparotomy or posterior colpotomy to remove the uterine corpus [34,35]. In more recent series, morcellation was used to remove the uterine corpus, with tissue removed through the morcellator itself or via a posterior colpotomy [36,37]. Techniques using both manual morcellation [38] and mechanical morcellators have been described, with the latter available in disposable mechanical, disposable electromechanical [39], and reusable mechanical systems.…”

“…[1][2][3] However, abdominal morcellation has rarely been described and it includes manual minilaparotomy, power, or cold knife laparoscopic morcellation. [4][5][6][7][8] The topic of morcellation has recently assumed greater relevance after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA's) statement discouraging the use of power morcellation for hysterectomy and myomectomy. 9 The aim of this report is to describe our laparoscopic cold knife section technique to reduce the uterine size in patients undergoing TLH for a bulky uterus.…”
