“…In the placenta, hCG is well known to facilitate trophoblastic differentiation (Licht et al, 2001, Malassine & Cronier, 2002, and was reported to induce the expression of specific genes such as VEGF, leukemia inhibitory factor, and MMP-9, all central to the establishment of the feto-maternal interface (Licht et al, 2007, Zygmunt et al, 2002. In human placenta, hCG is primarily produced by the syncytiotrophoblast and to a certain extent by the cytotrophoblast (Kirkegaard et al, 2011, Krantz et al, 2004, Rao & Lei, 2007, Shi et al, 1993. In normal pregnancies, detectable levels of hCG begin to appear in the maternal circulation about 2-3 weeks after conception and the peak is observed at ~8-9 wg before declining significantly in the later stages of pregnancy.…”

“…Studies performed over the past decade indicate that LHCGR is expressed in the human endometrium (Licht et al 2003;Rao and Lei 2007); however, these findings are in contrast with those reported by Stewart et al (1999). Zhang et al (2001b) reported finding Lhcgr transcripts in the mouse reproductive tract.…”

“…According to our previous observations and those of other groups, hCG plays important paracrine roles in implantation, angiogenesis and immune tolerance (Perrier d'Hauterive et al 2004Edwards 2006;Licht et al 2007;Rao and Lei 2007). Because of Fig.…”

“…Previous studies on LHR in cattle (Sun et al, 1997;Shemesh et al 2001), pig (Ziecik, 1986;Gawronska, 1999;Wasowicz and Ziecik, 2000), goat (Shen et al, 2009), mouse (Zhang et al, 2001), rabbit, and rat (Sawitzke and Odell, 1991 ) showed that LHR is expressed in a wide variety of non-gonadal tissues and organs, such as oviduct, cervix, urinary bladder, placenta, fetal membranes, umbilical cord, brain, pineal gland, spinal cord, pituitary gland, breast, skin, adrenal gland, blood vessels in target tissues, cells of the immune system, bone, heart, stomach, spleen, kidney, muscle, liver, and intestine (Rao and Lei, 2007;Ziecik et al, 2007;Vischer and Bogerd, 2003;Kwok et al, 2005;Chen et al, 2010). In the present study, LHR mRNA and protein were detected in non-gonadal tissues from Hu sheep using real-time quantitative PCR and ELISA.…”
