“…Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy was assessed according to ped-mTNS criteria and looking for detecting sensory, motor, combined neuropathy (12). Autonomic system was examined by asking questions about symptoms as paresthesias, muscle weakness, dizziness and lypothymia; and through the evaluation of osteotendinous reflexes.…”

“…However, until date there is no universally accepted tool for diagnosing chemotherapyinduced peripheral neuropathy in children and several scales (including or not electrodiagnostic studies) have been used to detect this complication in children receiving chemotherapy (12,27,28). Some examples are: the total neuropathy scale (TNS), clinical neuropathy scale, and the modified neuropathy scale.…”

“…Similar to the prevalence of CIPNs in adult populations, the actual prevalence of CIPNs in pediatric cancer populations is not known, given a lack of adequate standardized assessment, measurement, and reporting mechanisms [3, 9, 11, 7071]. What is known about CIPNs highlight the significant variation in the incidence of CIPNs, as symptoms that tend to depend on the type of drugs used, dosage, and treatment schedules employed [311,7074].…”

“…However, symptoms associated with CIPNs are often undiagnosed, under-assessed and communications problems between clinicians, family members and patients have been observed [7073]. Less is known about the prevalence and impact of CIPNs on pediatric cancer populations [7071]. The aim of this paper is to provide a brief understanding of CIPNs in pediatric populations, and review the evidence for both its prevention and treatment.…”

“…Several versions of this scale have been subsequently used in both adult and pediatric settings (Shy et al, 2005;Murphy et al, 2011;Gilchrist and Tanner, 2013). For CIPN, the Total Neuropathy Score clinical version (TNSc © ), based only on the clinical evaluation of symptoms and signs, is preferred in clinical practice (Cavaletti et al, 2010).…”
