The Performance and Adsorption Mechanism of a Novel Collector, Dodecyl Dimethyl Betaine (BS-12), for the Flotation Separation of Ilmenite and Titanaugite
Abstract:In this paper, a novel collector, dodecyl dimethyl betaine (BS-12), was used in the selective separation of ilmenite from titanaugite. The flotation performance and associated adsorption mechanism were studied by micro-flotation experiments, particle size analysis, Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy analysis, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis. The micro-flotation results indicated that BS-12 exhibited a stronger collecting ability towards ilmenite than titanaugite within an acidi… Show more
“…1a), indicating that some BS-12 still remained in DMoGC-(BS-12). 24 Besides, the asymmetric bending vibration of alkane C–H was observed at 1465 cm −1 , further confirming the presence of the BS-12 residual in DMoGC-(BS-12) (Fig. 1b).…”

“…The reason might be due to that BS-12 itself is highly viscous and can be easily adsorbed on carbon materials through hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic interactions. 24,25 In contrast, no peaks ascribed to aliphatic –CH 2 , SO 3 2− or aliphatic quaternary amine C–N can be observed from the FTIR spectra of DMoGC-SDS or DMoGC-CTAB (Fig. 1a and b), suggesting that SDS and CTAB were significantly removed during rinsing of the DMoGC samples, as proved by the FTIR spectrum of the rinse solution of the DMoGC samples (Fig.…”
Effective dispersion of carbon nanotubes (CNT) is of great importance to achieve its intrinsic performance. Normally, it is believed that CNT dispersion is decided by interactions between CNT and its...

“…An aqueous suspension of a finely ground ore is conditioned with flotation chemicals by changing the surface properties as per the requirements by making the metal sulfides either more hydrophobic (collector) or more hydrophilic (depressant) [9,10]. In the case of collectors, small air bubbles are produced to aggregate with the hydrophobic particles, making them float on the suspension with froth [11,12]. In the case of depressants, hydrophilic sulfides are depressed to be kept in the liquid solution [13].…”
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
