The Performance of Nanosilicate from Rice Husk Ash as Green Corrosion Inhibitor for Carbon Steel in 0.5M HCl

Abstract: Nanosilica powder produced from rice husk ash (RHA) via NaOH treatment has particle size in the range of 10-20 nm as revealed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The inhibitive action of nanosilicate from RHA on the corrosion of carbon steel SAE1045 in 0.5M HCl solution was studied using weight loss and potentio dynamic polarization methods. Result shows that the inhibition efficiency was increased with increasing of the inhibitor concentration. Nanosilicate was tremendously effective on carbon steel; e… Show more

“…The corrosion potential for PKO at 8 v/v % is more positive than the uninhibited value (Ecorr =-329.8 mV and E'corr = -298.9 mV), so it can be said that this inhibitor acts as an anodic inhibitor also. The formation of a protective film is a result of the interaction of inhibitor molecules with atoms of the base metal surface [23]. Therefore, all things considered that the results indicate that PKO acts as a mixed-type corrosion inhibitor with predominantly control of anodic reaction [24].…”

“…(Pramudita et al, 2018b;Rochmat et al, 2019a). One of the studies discussing the effect of temperature on silica inhibitors was conducted by Rahman et al (2014). This study tested the effectiveness of silica inhibitors in preventing corrosion of mild steel at 30°C and 60°C.…”
