This article discusses the function of literature in shaping human character. The values mandated in literary works, especially folklore have a strategic role in shaping and perfecting behavior. They are very useful in guiding people's attitudes and mindsets as literary readers and lovers, especially folklore from West Sumatra. Humans can use information systems and technology to carry on important values in folklore. But the extent to which progress has been used to pass down the values of the character's formation. It turns out that discussion in that direction has not yet been conducted. There are three folktales from West Sumatra, which are the focus of the analysis in this article. All three are sourced from folklore that is still alive and developing in communities in West Sumatra, namely "Bujang Lenguang Bujang Pemburu", "Rawa Manisan", and "Kuduak Batu Jawi. This study uses functional research methods to dismantle the values of character education that are useful for the development of national character, especially for mental knowledge and the simplicity of young people in West Sumatra. Thought to offer the use of information systems and technological advances were raised based on the crucial function of literary works in shaping the nation's character. Research shows that literature has a role as an aesthetic teaching tool and is veiled. Folklore is a means to convey teachings about the value of politeness for readers or connoisseurs of literature. Literature must play an essential role in shaping the character of the Indonesian nation in the future. Advances in information systems and technology can help in carrying out and carrying out these literary functions.

The goal of this study was to discover how the kato nan ampek cultural perspective communication was applied to the Minangkabau community in Medan Denai District, Medan City. This is a qualitative study that employs the descriptive method. During the research, it was discovered that the community, particularly the older Minangkabau generation, continued to use the communication procedures governed by the kato nan ampek concept. However, the younger generation does not fully appreciate the value of kato nan ampek. Furthermore, there has been a shift in the use of various Minangkabau language greeting words, with the younger generation preferring foreign language greeting words over their native language greeting words. Parental and environmental factors contribute to the decline of kato nan ampek cultural values in the Minangkabau younger generation. The formation of adolescent behavior with mutual cooperation is an effort to increase the value of kato nan ampek in the younger generation.

Dental students must communicate empathetically by paying attention to local cultural values. This article investigates the relationship between studying local culture and interest in developing sympathetic communication. This study uses a qualitative method. Ninety-six dental students were selected as respondents. Primary data comes from student responses and screenshots of learning materials collected through online questionnaires. The results showed that there had been an increase in the knowledge of dental students to develop sympathetic communication by paying attention to the values of local cultural wisdom. Students' responses to learning local culture are divided into three groups: (a) respondents who think that professional dentists must have cultural intelligence in building communication; (b) respondents who think that cultural knowledge is relevant to the social field; and (c) respondents who stated that cultural intelligence could be correlated with various aspects of life. This study provides a basis for designing similar curricula in other universities. Keywords: Communication, etiquette, humanist dentist, learning, local culture.
