In this article, we use rank to understand the price of chemical elements. We observe that the role of the volume from global mining production dominates in materials economics. In this article, we explore simplifying mechanisms in materials economics for conceptionally organizing the flows of chemical elements into society. We use the concept of rank, which plays a crucial role in information theory where power laws are involved, and is a useful measure for seeking extremal principles. Borrowing from an analogy to Zipf's law leads to a power-law relationship between abundance and rank thatpressing the Zipf's law analogy further-may suggest that the price paid for elemental materials optimizes efficient utilization. Factors such as weight, volume, and moles in the earth's crust or in global mining production of elements are used in our analysis. For this research, 42 elements with price and production data for the year 2010 (a relatively typical year) were considered. We observe that the role of the volume from global mining production dominates in materials economics and indicate that elements such as Te and He should be sold at prices at least ~ 100-1000 times more than their present price for efficient utilization.

The construction industry is one of the most critical activities for the sustainable development of a country, generating positive and negative economic, social and environmental impacts. These aspects can be measured by Sustainability Indicators and Indices, which are useful tools for society, investors and the government in decision-making, especially when purchasing products and services, as they quantify information about a phenomenon in a given dimension of sustainability. Therefore, the objective of this study is to propose a model for assessing the sustainability of civil construction companies, considering economic, social, environmental and corporate governance criteria. These criteria are aggregated into a single index using the PROMETHEE II multicriteria method, which allows to avoid the compensation effect caused by the aggregation operators based on the additive model. The model was used to evaluate four Brazilian construction companies: Alpha, Beta, Delta and Gamma. The data of these companies were collected in a database of the Brazilian Chamber of the Construction Industry and in the sustainability`s reports published by them. We concluded that the companies Alpha and Gamma, followed by the company Beta presented the best performances in corporate sustainability, while the construction company Delta has the worst level of corporate sustainability.

Social network site usage has grown to be a worldwide trend. These sites facilitate online contact between individuals having similar concerns. The speedy and extensive usage of such sites has affirmed their perception and positioning in the minds of users. This research adds to our consideration by empirically exploring determinants affecting users' acceptance of such sites. A HUMP model has been introduced to evaluate the effect of hedonic (perceived playfulness), utilitarian (perceived usefulness) e-mavenism, polychronicity, and perceived ease of use on the intention to use and thus actual use of social networking sites. The causal modeling technique is used to study the outline of associations amid the projected model constructs and to analytically evaluate the research propositions. All the conjectured factors possess a considerable unswerving sway on the intention to use, with e-mavenism and polychronicity, the robust indicators.
