The relationship between lipid profiles in pregnancy and preterm delivery: a systematic review

Abstract: Background: High-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), triglyceride (TG), and total cholesterol (TC) are associated with maternal hormonal changes which can lead to pregnancy complications. High lipid levels during pregnancy may be accompanied by an increased risk of spontaneous preterm labor. The purpose of this review was to determine the relationship between lipid profiles in pregnancy and preterm delivery. Methods: A systematic search was performed in PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Scienc… Show more

“…It is known that many factors affect lipid levels in GDM because carbohydrate metabolism directly affects lipid metabolism. There is still controversy over the association between lipid profile and GDM [ 12 ]. Although lipid levels have been extensively studied during pregnancy, there are conflicting results in this regard.…”

“…Campolong, et al., [2] agrees that there are three stages of pregnancy, known as trimesters. In pregnancy, lipid metabolism undergoes complicated changes; lipid levels such as Low-density Lipoprotein (LDL), High-density Lipoprotein (HDL), Total Cholesterol (TC), and Triglyceride, above or below the normal range can lead to pregnancy complications that may end up to preterm delivery [3].…”
