Targeting the cannabinoid type 1 receptor (CB1) is a clinically validated antiobesity therapeutic approach. The only such drug approved, rimonabant, was launched in 2006 in Europe but subsequently rejected by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2007. The FDA cited the increased risk of suicidality in its opposition to rimonabant's approval, leading to the drug's eventual worldwide withdrawal and the abandonment of this class of therapeutics. Seventeen years later, a new class of CB1‐targeting drugs is emerging, but the impact of the 2007 FDA decision remains a formidable obstacle to its clinical development. We revisit the suicidality data presented by the FDA in light of the evolution of suicidality assessment and cross‐reference this with the data in the subsequently published clinical trials. We conclude that the publicly available data do not support the FDA's conclusion that the use of rimonabant was associated with an increase in the risk of suicidality.

Kasus bunuh diri di Kabupaten Gunung Kidul Provinsi Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta setiap tahunnya rata-rata sebanyak 30 orang. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menjawab pertanyaan bagaimanakah pola perilaku bunuh diri di Kabupaten Gunung Kidul? Bagaimanakah penjelasan mengenai fenomena Pulung Gantung di Kabupaten Gunung Kidul? Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan menjadi dasar bagi pihak terkait dalam menyusun langkah preventif perilaku bunuh diri di Gunung Kidul. Metode penelitian kualitatif dengan teknik penelitian wawancara dan kajian literatur digunakan untuk menjawab pertanyaan penelitian. Untuk alasan etis, wawancara tidak dilakukan kepada penyintas ataupun keluarga pelaku bunuh diri, melainkan kepada pihak yang terlibat dalam penanganan bunuh diri di Gunung Kidul, diantaranya pihak pemerintah daerah, rumah sakit, kepolisian, dan masyarakat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pelaku bunuh diri lebih banyak berjenis kelamin laki-laki, berusia diatas 58 tahun, berprofesi sebagai petani, dengan cara gantung diri, pada pukul 02-03 dinihari, sering dilakukan di bulan maret, dengan motif faktor usia, penyakit menahun, dan tekanan ekonomi. Paling banyak terjadi Kelurahan Semin, Gedangsari, dan Wonosari. Penanganan fenomena bunuh diri membutuhkan kolaborasi dari berbagai pihak. Pemerintah daerah harus meningkatkan pelayanan kesehatan bagi lansia. Program Posyandu Lansia harus di intensifkan dengan menyasar kesehatan fisik dan psikis. DPRD harus mengawasi implementasi program pemerintah daerah. Perlu keterlibatan akademisi dan masyarakat

Extant research has investigated the relationship between body weight and suicidality because obesity is highly stigmatized, leading to social marginalization and discrimination, yet has produced mixed results. Scholars have speculated that factors associated with body weight, such as weight discrimination, may better predict suicidality than body weight itself. We consider this possibility among a sample of 12,057 adult participants ages 33 to 43 in Wave V of the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health through investigation of the relationships between weight discrimination and two dimensions of suicidality—suicide ideation and attempts. We also examine gender as a moderator of these relationships. We find that weight discrimination is positively associated with both suicide ideation and attempts, and this relationship is similar among men and women. Our findings underscore the need to address issues of weight discrimination in our society to better promote mental well-being.
