The Relationship Between Ontology and Modelling Concepts

Abstract: This paper focuses on role oriented modelling and does so by outlining what it is and how it can be applied. This paper attempts to build a basis of a structured way of thinking, working, modelling, and implementation of roles. It endeavours to provide a standardized terminology, build common understanding, and make available the standardized and integrated role templates/artefacts. It helps to reduce and/or, if needed, enhance complexity of role modelling, engineering and architecture principles. While this p… Show more

“…subjects and thereby artefacts are used. Appreciating the full semiotic depth of the strategy ontology is therefore considered an essential part for any practitioners work with and around various relevant strategy concepts [26]. As illustrated in figure 4, the Strategy Lifecycle is therefore built upon ontological and semiotic concepts, which have been studied and observed to apply to almost any strategy modelling, engineering and architecture concept.…”

“…An enterprise ontology can provide significant benefits to a business but must have the ambition to cover all aspects of the business domain (as opposed to specific silo ontologies). The business Ontology must be organized in a top-level foundational Ontology, with relating core reference, domain, task and application ontologies (von Rosing et al, 2017).…”
