“…A total of 1288 unrelated Russians (600 patients with IS and 688 healthy individuals) from Central Russia were recruited for the study. The patients were enrolled from the Regional Cardiovascular Centre of Kursk Regional Clinical Hospital and Neurology Division of Kursk Emergency Hospital during two periods, between 2007 and 2013 as described previously, [11][12][13] and between 2015 and 2017. All patients were examined by qualified neurologists.…”

“…IS is considered a multifactorial disease due to the involvement of genetic and environmental factors [ 2 ]. A lot of studies have been done to evaluate the genetic nature of IS [ 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 ] and IS-related modifiable risk factors, like hypertension [ 8 , 9 ], atherosclerosis [ 10 , 11 ], thrombosis [ 12 ]. However, disclosure of genetic correlates of IS remains an important task on the way to predicting and fighting the disease.…”

“…Therefore, the objective of our study was to challenge whether polymorphisms of HSPA8 gene are related to IS risk. nature of IS [3][4][5][6][7] and IS-related modifiable risk factors, like hypertension [8,9], atherosclerosis [10,11], thrombosis [12]. However, disclosure of genetic correlates of IS remains an important task on the way to predicting and fighting the disease.…”

“…IS is a multifactorial disease with multiple genes involved. Association studies of the last decades revealed a broadest spectrum of genetic markers associated with IS ( [1] , [25] , [55] ), and related disorders such as arterial hypertension ( [6] , [5] ) and atherosclerosis ( [40] , [41] , [42] , [8] ) leading to the new insights in their pathogenesis.…”
