Background Myofascial release (MFR) and Mulligan Sustained Natural Apophyseal Glides (SNAGs) are manual therapy techniques routinely practiced in the management of non-specific low back pain (NSLBP). As a solo intervention or along with other therapies, both methods have reported positive results for individuals with NSLBP. However, which technique improves NSLBP-related pain, restricted range of motion (ROM) and disability, warrants further research. Objective To study the comparative effects of MFR and SNAGs on pain, disability, functional ability, and lumbar ROM in NSLBP. Method A parallel-group study was conducted at tertiary care hospitals. Sixty-five Sub-acute or chronic NSLBP patients were allocated to receive strengthening exercises along with either MFR (n = 33) or SNAGs (n = 32) for six treatment sessions over one week. An independent assessor evaluated outcome measures such as the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Patient-Specific Function Scale (PSFS), and ROM at baseline, immediate (after 1st treatment), and short-term (post-sixth day of the intervention). The Modified Oswestry disability index (MODI) was assessed at baseline and short-term. Results Within-group analysis found clinically and statistically significant (p < 0.05) changes for VAS and PSFS at immediate and short-term for both the groups. The lumbar extension also showed improvement immediately and in the short-term. Improvement in Lumbar flexion was seen only in the SNAGs group over the short-term. A statistically significant improvement was seen for MODI in both the groups but was not clinically significant in the MFR group. The analysis observed no statistically significant difference (p < 0.05) between the groups at both the immediate and short-term. Conclusions Pain and restricted function associated with NSLBP can be improved using SNAGs or MFR, along with strengthening exercises. For limited lumbar flexion ROM, Mulligan SNAGs have a better outcome than MFR over the short-term. Hence, both manual therapy techniques can be incorporated along with exercises for immediate and short-term management of sub-acute to chronic NSLBP. Clinical Trial Registration. Background. Low back pain is one of the most common problems among ballroom dancers. The aim. To determine the correlations between the hypermobility of the lumbar spine, lower back pain and static endurance of the trunk muscles in sports dancers. Methods. 36 ballroom dancers (50% males and 50% females) between the ages of 16 and 22 participated in the study. The subjects filled out a questionnaire, inclinometry was performed to determine the amplitudes of spinal movements, the static endurance of the trunk muscles was assessed according to the McGill methodology, and the intensity of the felt pain was assessed on the analog pain scale. Results. 72.2% of dancers have experienced lower back pain at least once in their life. The average back pain intensity for males was 2.17 ± 2.92 p., and for females – 3.56 ± 2.66 (p< 0.05). The amplitude of back extension was 28.1° for dancers with back pain, and 22.2° for those without. The average endurance of the back muscles of the subjects who felt pain was 101s, and 117s for those who did not. The average endurance of the left side of the trunk muscles was 70s in subjects with low back pain and 83s in subjects without. A statistically significant difference was found between pain sensation and extension amplitude (p<0.05) and pain sensation and static endurance of trunk muscles (p<0.05). Conclusion. The more intense the pain, the greater the amplitude of the spine. With lower back pain the static endurance of the muscles of the back and left side of the trunk was shorter. Protective and sport clothing is governed by protection requirements, performance, and comfort of the user. The comfort and impact performance of protective and sport clothing are typically subjectively measured, and this is a multifactorial and dynamic process. The aim of this review paper is to review the contemporary methodologies and approaches for measuring ergonomic wear comfort, including objective and subjective techniques. Special emphasis is given to the discussion of different methods, such as objective techniques, subjective techniques, and a combination of techniques, as well as a new biomechanical approach called modeling of skin. Literature indicates that there are four main techniques to measure wear comfort: subjective evaluation, objective measurements, a combination of subjective and objective techniques, and computer modeling of human–textile interaction. In objective measurement methods, the repeatability of results is excellent, and quantified results are obtained, but in some cases, such quantified results are quite different from the real perception of human comfort. Studies indicate that subjective analysis of comfort is less reliable than objective analysis because human subjects vary among themselves. Therefore, it can be concluded that a combination of objective and subjective measuring techniques could be the valid approach to model the comfort of textile materials.
