IntroductionThe three-dimensional movies are popular among today's generation. Following the success of the blockbuster movie Avatar, interest in 3D movies has increased significantly, leading to the production of more 3D movies. 3D televisions, 3D broadcasting and 3D Blu-ray movies also hit the market. More recently, virtual reality becomes a popular trend for consumers who want even more immersive 3D experiences. A few months ago Paramount Pictures launches the first virtual reality movie theater.Along with the rising popularity in 3D technologies, the biggest concern of creating 3D contents is to offer deeper and more meaningful experiences. Many works have shown that 3D images help users experience excitement, a feeling of presence, and enjoyment, and even performance advantages for depth-related tasks [1]. Despite the growing interest in 3D contents and technologies, few are concerned about viewers' perceptual and emotional responses to 3D stimuli.Much 3D related research is focused on technical factors, such as the fidelity of stereoscopic depth and reduction of visual discomforts while the viewer is watching 3D [2][3][4]. For example, subjective evaluation was used to compare visual fatigue induced by AbstractIn this research, we investigated on user's affective and physiological responses to the emotional movies. The emotional movies provide continuous feedback such as changes in saturation, brightness and contrast of the movie in response to users' emotional states. In the user study, the subjects watched the emotional movies, edited by fearful and joyful scenes, and presented in 2D and 3D formats. The subject's self-reported emotion responses and their physiological signals were analyzed. The results highlight the importance of scenes (such as, the color, tone, and brightness of the scene) than 2D or 3D format in understanding the impact of users' emotional responses. More physiological emotional changes, positive user responses and higher correlation rate between physiological and subjective responses were evident for joyful scene than fearful scene when presented in 3D format. Abstract.The aim of this paper was todevelop the UX profiling method applying quantitative measurement. The quantitative index of user profile used a valence by analyzing the physiological response. The proposed system of this paper consists oftwo module groups as the measurement control modules for user response monitoring and the 3D environment control modules for service scenario display. We applied this system to 'Public Health Service in the Park' service prototyping as anexample.The proposed system wasable to measure quantitative and a qualitative user response for UX profiling. This system can be useful inmakinggood UX service.

Real-Time Mobile Emotional Content Player Using Smartphone Camera-Based PPG Measurement

A real-time mobile content player was developed that can recognize and reflect emotions in real time using a smartphone. To determine effective awareness, a photoplethysmogram (PPG), which is a biological signal, was measured to recognize emotional changes in users presented with content intended to induce an emotional response. To avoid the need for a separate sensor to measure the PPG, PPG signals were extracted from the red (R) values of images acquired by the rear camera of a smartphone. To reflect an emotion, the saturation (S) and brightness (V) levels, which are related to the ambience of a content, are changed to reflect the emotional changes of the user within the content itself in real time. Arousal- and relaxation-inducing scenarios were conducted to validate the effectiveness. The sample t-test results show that the average peak-to-peak interval (PPI), which is the time interval between the peaks of PPG signals, was significantly low when viewing the content under the arousal-inducing scenario as compared to when watching regular content, and it was determined that the emotion of the user was led to a state of arousal. Ten university students (five males and five females) participated in the experiment. The users had no cardiac disease and were asked not to drink or smoke before the experiment. The average PPI was significantly higher when the content was viewed in the relaxation-inducing scenario compared to regular content, and it was determined that the emotion of the user was induced to a state of relaxation. The designed emotional content player was confirmed to be an interactive system, in which the video content and user concurrently affect each other through the system.
