“…Only a small proportion of adolescents (1.7%) met the overall recommendations (i.e., PA, screen time, and sleep duration) [6], showing lower percentages than previous studies in children [44,45] and adolescents [45,46]. For example, in a recent study conducted in a sample of 1925 children and adolescents, the 80.4% and 53.8% of children boys and girls, respectively, and the 67.5% and 53.8% of adolescent boys and girls, respectively, met PA guidelines [47]. To our knowledge, there are no studies in Spain that have exclusively analyzed the proportion of adolescents meeting all the recommendations of the 24-hour movement guidelines (i.e., PA, screen time, and sleep duration).…”

“…It was also suggested that youths should spend 50% of recess (ie, time periods of noncurricular activities in school) and physical education classes (PEC) total time in MVPA . In this context, previous studies have reported a compliance rate of less than 25% with the school hour PA recommendation even lower than the percentage of compliance for the MVPA during the whole day, and showed that less than 15% of students satisfied the MVPA recommendations during recess and PEC …”

“…In general, children aged 12-13 years spend just 5% of school time in MVPA (Da Costa et al, 2017). Specifically, the most recent studies in Spanish children and adolescents also show that PA levels are very low during school hours, recess, and Physical Education lessons (Grao-Cruces et al, 2019). Therefore, new strategies to increase the amount and intensity of physical activity (PA) children do in school, outside of Physical Education classes, are being introduced.…”
