The Science behind the Probiotic Strain Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis BB-12®

Abstract: This review presents selected data on the probiotic strain Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis BB-12® (BB-12®), which is the world’s most documented probiotic Bifidobacterium. It is described in more than 300 scientific publications out of which more than 130 are publications of human clinical studies. The complete genome sequence of BB-12® has been determined and published. BB-12® originates from Chr. Hansen’s collection of dairy cultures and has high stability in foods and as freeze dried powders. Strain … Show more

“…The effect of Lactococcus CFS was a variety from isolate to another because it is obscure of the production levels and properties among its compounds depend on the biochemical properties of the strain used and physical and chemical conditions of growth [5,26].…”

“…The beneficial bacteria types include the well-known probiotic strains B. animalis subsp. animalis, L. rhamnosus and L. acidophilus (Jungersen et al, 2014;Weese & Anderso, 2002). Alvarez-Olmos and Oberhelman (2001) and Tien et al (2006) described the mechanism of action for probiotics against gastrointestinal pathogens as based principally on: i) competition for nutrients and sites of adhession, ii) production of antimicrobial metabolites, iii) changing the gastrointestinal environmental conditions and, iv) modulation of the immune response of the host.…”
