The Scope of Metal Complexes in Drug Design - A Review

Abstract: A significantly rising interest in the design of metal compounds as drugs and diagnostic agents is currently observed in the area of scientific inquiry, appropriately termed medicinal inorganic chemistry. Investigations in this area focus mostly on the speciation of metal species in biological media based on possible interactions of these metal ions with diverse biomolecules, in an effort to contribute to future development of new therapeutics or diagnostic agents. Metallopharmaceuticals used as anticancer age… Show more

“…Notably, reports on these strategies revealed that metal coordination could reduce toxicity and increase the pharmaceutical effect of the free drug molecules. 40 Through rational design, metal complexes can simultaneously combine the advantages of both metals and drug molecules to achieve better therapeutic effects.…”

“…(Fedenko et al 2022). Metal complexes of many natural products have been widely used as chemotherapeutic agents to treat several human diseases such as carcinomas, lymphomas, infection control, diabetes, anti-inflammatory, antimalarial, and neurological disorders (Pattan et al 2012, Jurca et al 2017, Heras et al 2019.…”

“…Thiazoles are associated with curative effects under bad health conditions. For instance, they are anticancerous [1][2][3] , antimicrobial [4][5][6] , antiinflammatory [7][8] , antitubercular [9][10] and antifungal 11 . Chromones are widely studied compounds with broad spectrum of medicinal activities [12][13][14][15][16][17][18] .…”
