The shape dependency of two-dimensional magnetic field dependence of a Josephson junction

Abstract: Modulation characteristics of a Josephson current are usually measured by applying the external magnetic field parallel to the junction plane from one direction, and uniformity in tunnel barrier is discussed. So far, we have measured two-dimensional magnetic field dependence of a square Josephson junction by independently scanning the magnetic field (Hx,Hy) parallel to the junction plane from two directions. We can get a lot of information about spatial critical current distribution in a Josephson junction by … Show more

“…In addition, from the theory, the ideal Fraunhofer pattern requires a uniform current profile (rectangular junction area shape and magnetic field parallel with either side of the rectangle). Therefore, the junction shape and magnetic field direction can also lead to a non-ideal Fraunhofer pattern, even in a high-quality junction with high-quality interfaces 44 .…”

“…7 We have also obtained the I c -H (H x , H y ) characteristics by two dimensional (2-D) scanning of the external magnetic field H using two pairs of the Helmholtz coils. [8][9][10][11][12] In the I c -H (H x , H y ) dependence of square shape junction, sub peaks were observed in the directions of 0 , 90 , 180 , 270 in the H x ÀH y plane. 8 In triangle and hexagonal shape junctions, sub peaks were observed in the directions of 0 , 60 120 , 180 , 240 , 300 in the H x ÀH y plane.…”
