The spatial pattern and governance of Zhongyuan Urban-Rural System in its development trajectory

Abstract: It remains unclear on how transportation network interacts with economic network in an urban-rural agglomeration, while such knowledge is crucial for urban-rural system governance and sustainability. We explored such spatial interactions in the Zhongyuan Urban-Rural Agglomeration (ZURA) from 1995 to 2015. The structure of transportation network was measured by spatial syntax model, and that of economic network was gauged by improved gravity model. The associations between transportation and economic networks w… Show more

“…Rail transits facilitate the swift exchange and utilization of people, logistics, and information flow within urban agglomerations. This enhances accessibility, reduces time-space distances for residents traveling within urban agglomerations, fosters regional synergy, and bolsters overall competitiveness [38]. To achieve these goals, the line quality evaluation indicator system is constructed, considering aspects like line network structure and scale, operational performance, and social benefits.…”

“…Urban areas encourage rural areas' efforts to develop, and vice versa, leading to integration of urban and rural development. Throughout the integrated development stage of countries around the world, urban-rural integrated development and transportation networks should be closely linked, and the two areas influence and restrict each other [4].…”

“…, 2022). Besides, one of the main purposes of coordinated urban-rural governance of urban agglomerations is to achieve “dual carbon” target by solving the fragmentation problem caused due to the barriers emerged from traditional administrative jurisdictions, which is a key challenge to effective urban-rural governance (Fu et al. , 2022; Mi, 2019).…”

“…China's urbanization rate reached 63.9% in 2020, and urban agglomerations have also become the key area for the country to promote urban-rural integration and coordinated regional socio-economic development (Wang et al, 2022). Besides, one of the main purposes of coordinated urban-rural governance of urban agglomerations is to achieve "dual carbon" target by solving the fragmentation problem caused due to the barriers emerged from traditional administrative jurisdictions, which is a key challenge to effective urban-rural governance (Fu et al, 2022;Mi, 2019). Relevant studies on the urban-rural low-carbon transition governance mainly include low-carbon economic development pathways (Rehman et al, 2021), assessment of low-carbon development status (Abdul et al, 2021) and analysis of carbon emission trends (Zhang et al, 2021c) and drivers (Liao et al, 2021), and there is a lack of research on spatial governance.…”
