The structure and properties of45Sc at low excitation energies

Abstract: The spins and electromagnetic properties of levels in 45Sc up to 2,352 keV were studied by means of inelastic proton scattering using a 3-parameter coincidence arrangement and Coulomb excitation with 3He and 4He beams. Relevant experimental results are discussed in terms of the Thankappen-True core-plus-particle model.

“…Olivier cidence arrangement was similar to those discussed by Buitendag et al [3]. The incoming alpha particles were accelerated to an energy of 12.0 MeV with the 6 MV Van de Graaff accelerator of the National Accelerator Centre (NAC) at Faure, South Africa.…”

“…2. According to previous studies [6,7] the influence of angular distribution effects on branching ratios is negligible for nuclei with high ground state spins as is the case for 43Sc with a ground state spin of 7/2-.…”

“…A threeparameter computer-orientated coincidence arrangement using a series 50/50 Nuclear Data analyser coupled to a PDP-15 computer was used in order to study levels up to approximately 3 MeV. The experimental method has been described previously [3]. To minimize the influence of Doppler shifts, the coincident gamma rays were detected at an angle perpendicular to the direction of residual nuclei associated with 2MeV excitation.…”

“…Two Si surface-barrier detectors located at + 110 ~ and -110 ~ with respect to the incident beam and a 42 cm 3 Ge(Li)-detector at 90 ~ were used in a 3-parameter computer-orientated coincidence arrangement. The experimental method has been described previously [3]. The coincidence gamma spectra were recorded over 8192 channels.…”
