The Study of the Effect of the Digital Economy on the Low-Carbon Transformation of Urban Economies under Public Attention

Abstract: Using the panel data of 274 cities from 2011 to 2019, this article studied the impact of the digital economy on the low-carbon transformation and space overflow effect on the city’s low-carbon transformation and used the panel threshold model to calculate the regulatory effect of public attention. Studies found the following: (1) The digital economy, the urban low-carbon transformation level, and public attention show regional differences, manifesting as the distribution of "point clusters" and "decreasing fro… Show more

“…Higher levels of industrial greenness are typically associated with better digital infrastructure and deeper integration with De, resulting in increased resource allocation and technology effects from De and Igt (Zhao et al, 2022). However, when the level of De is excessively high, the promotion effect exhibits decay characteristics (Wang, Jiang, & Xu, 2022; Wang, Liu, et al, 2022). When Igt level is high, the role of De is fully realized, and other tools are sought to promote Igt.…”

“…Digital transformation is essential to improve energy consumption and reduce carbon emissions. Other studies have pointed out that digital technologies can reduce carbon emissions by promoting manufacturing agglomeration (Li X. et al, 2022), ease the financing constraints of enterprises (Yang G. et al, 2023), improve public awareness (Wang Q. et al, 2022b), and strengthen environmental regulation (Liu et al, 2023). Zhang et al (2021) argued that the digital economy has broken the restrictions of geography, time, and space while promoting efficiency improvements in all aspects from production to sales.…”

“…However, synergies need to be further enhanced. Wang et al [22] discussed how the DEL relates to transforming the low-carbon urban economy and found a U-shaped relationship between them. Zhang et al [23] examined the implications of DEL for the green economy using the SBM-GML model.…”
