The study of the (n, ?) and (n, ? ?) reactions on143Nd

Abstract: Partial cross sections have been measured for the 143Nd(nth, e) 14~ reaction and also for the two-step process 143Nd(nth, 7e) 14~The results of the present work confirm previous data, but due to lower background, better statistics and resolution improved precision has been obtained. The double-humped structure in the observed (n, ~ e) spectrum can still be explained through the Porter-Thomas fluctuations of the reduced partial 7 and e widths.

“…Several such experiments have been performed with consistent results [1][2][3]. The γα cascades are seen as a continuum distribution in the α spectrum between peaks corresponding to population of the ground and the 1.5 MeV 2+ first excited state of 140 Ce (Fig.1).…”

“…Model calculations were tested against both the experimental α spectrum from 143 Nd(n, γα) [2] and the experimental γ-spectrum from 143 Nd(n, γ) reactions [25] measured with thermal and 15-90 keV neutrons respectively. The comparison presented in Fig.…”

“…3) in KMF-type analyses [47], agreement to the low energy data near 5 MeV is reached in spite of the large value for Γ . For even lower energy it was proposed to add a component to the Lorentzian which violates the Axel-Brink hypothesis; this has allowed to assign E1-character to the data from 143 Nd(n, γα) [125][126][127] with their strength observed even below 1 MeV. But this neglects the fact, that M1 radiation should be favored [128], similar to what was indicated theoretically for 94−96 Mo [129].…”

“…The catalytic properties of supported gold catalysts depend on the crystallite size of active metal and the type of metal oxide as supports [2]. Theoretical background of the extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) and the X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses, including the main mathematical properties of the generalized Fermi function (GFF), used for approximation and deconvolution of the experimental X-ray line profiles (XRLP) were presented in papers [3][4][5]. SimPeak computer package program was used for data analysis of the X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) spectra.…”
