The Thermoplast Nasal Splint in Rhinoplasty

Abstract: Most surgeons agree that after completion of rhino-plastic surgery, a protective dressing should be applied to provide stabilization of the bony nasal skeleton, approximation of the skin flap to underlying bone, control of edema, and prevention of hematoma formation. Joseph felt that the dressing played a psychological role as well, preventing the patient from being alarmed by postoperative swelling. This has been accomplished by a variety of materials and methods both historically and presently.
