The TRAF2 and TRAF6 expression in myomas and myometrium of women in reproduction and perimenopausal age.

Abstract: Uterine myomas represent one of the most common female diseases. Uterine myomas or fibromas are benign, hormone-responding tumours of, respectively, smooth muscles and fibroblasts and their aetiology induces a significant interest. In myomas the presence of aromatase was detected and, in addition, oestrogen was found to be synthesized in myoma cells. The studies were performed on myoma patients of generative age and those in peri-menopausal age. Expression of TRAF2 and TRAF6 proteins was examined using immunoh… Show more

“…These results are consistent with studies of Kurachi et al [34] who showed that the expression of TNF-a in leiomyoma cells was higher than that in the normal myometrial cells and could be down-regulated by progesterone. Activity of IL-1b and TNF-a is particularly important since, on the one hand, they may directly affect the level of inducible cyclooxygenase [16,35] and, on the other, they may indirectly, through TRAF proteins, stimulate activation of the NF-kB transcription factor [21]. We found that the expression profile of COX-2 was similar to the one of TNF-a.…”

“…IL-1b and TNF-a stimulate TRAF6 (tumor necrosis factor receptor associated factor 6) [21], the effect of which directly stimulates the expression of NF-kB [22]. IL-1b and TNF-a increase the level of iNOS mRNA by transcriptional activation [23].…”

“…It is a cytoplasmic protein that plays a role in apoptosis and cell survival [11]. We do not know the exact mechanism of cancer cachexia, but atrophy in muscles may have a prognostic role in this process.…”
