In observations of the earth tide, there are often some anomalous microseisms in tidal signals. These microseisms are observed by broadband digital seismographs at the same time. Some of these microseisms are generated by tropical cyclones in the western Pacific, and others are mostly accompanied by major earthquakes, called anomalous tremor waves. This article outlines the earthquake and tide observation station of the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), and reports the anomalous tremor waves recorded by the DZW gravimeter and VS‐1 tiltmeter at this station. A lot of observations show that the anomalous tremor waves appeared in the records of the low‐pass 1 channel (LP1) of the DZW gravimeter and VS‐1 tiltmeter, but were rare in that of the low‐pass 2 channel (LP2) of the instruments and other tidal instruments. The envelope of the anomalous tremor waves is mostly like a spindle or tail, with a duration of 1 to 3 days. The research of the anomalous tremor waves and the tidal instruments suggests that these anomalous tremor waves are actually micro‐tremor signals originated from complex sources, which have a wide response range, and can be recorded by broadband digital seismographs and tidal instruments. The main periods of the anomalous tremor waves aroused by the tropical cyclone in the western Pacific are about 3∼7 s, and the tremor waves before earthquakes have not only a main period of 3∼7 s but also 10∼60 s or longer periods. The differences of the responses of tidal instruments to anomalous tremor waves are mainly decided by the transfer function and property of the instruments. The DZW gravimeter and VS‐1 tiltmeter take samples per minute, so the anomalous tremor waves are the aliasing or mapping of the real signals. Whether the anomalous tremor waves before earthquakes are related to the earthquakes, or a seismic precursor needs more detailed and deeper analysis.

Mare‐basalt volcanism is concentrated on the lunar nearside. A plausible explanation for this asymmetric distribution is long‐wavelength (spherical harmonic degree‐1) mantle convection driven by upwellings of the overturned ilmenite‐bearing magma ocean cumulates (IBCs). The pattern of lunar mantle convection depends in part on the rheological properties of ilmenite. This study explores the effect of pressure‐dependent ilmenite viscosity on the instability of an overturned IBC layer initially at the core‐mantle boundary and the pattern of lunar mantle convection through three‐dimensional numerical simulations. We show that the convective patterns are sensitive to the activation volume for viscous flow. An effective activation volume of 10 cm3/mol would reduce the internal convection in the overturned IBC layer and promote the hemispherical upwelling. However, when the activation volume is too small, vigorous convection in the overturned IBC layer would inhibit heat from concentrating on one hemisphere. When the activation volume is too large, the size of the upwelling plumes is restricted, preventing a stable long‐wavelength structure in the upper mantle. Decompression melting during asymmetric upwelling would produce the localization of mare basalts on the lunar surface.

Highly efficient photocatalytic degradation of Congo red dye under simulated sunlight irradiation was achieved on a ZnAl 2 O 4 /15%CeO 2 photocatalyst. The results of structural and functional group characterization of ZnAl 2 O 4 /CeO 2 photocatalyst shows that the sample only contain X-ray diffraction peaks of ZnAl 2 O 4 and CeO 2 , no other impurities, which can increase light absorption capacity, increase specific surface area and suppress charge recombination than that of single phase of ZnAl 2 O 4 or CeO 2 . Compared to pure ZnAl 2 O 4 and CeO 2 or ZnAl 2 O 4 /5%CeO 2 and ZnAl 2 O 4 /10%CeO 2 composites, the ZnAl 2 O 4 /15%CeO 2 photocatalyst exhibited substantially improved simulated sunlight photocatalytic activity for photocatalytic degradation of Congo red dye under simulated sunlight irradiation, with the optimal dye concentration of 25 mg/L, optimal catalyst content of 50 mg/L and optimal pH value of 3 were obtained. The enhanced photocatalytic activity of ZnAl 2 O 4 /15%CeO 2 photocatalyst can be attributed to the synergistic effect of light absorption capacity, specific surface area, and active site. Finally, the photocatalytic mechanism of ZnAl 2 O 4 /CeO 2 photocatalyst was proposed on the basis of energy band theory and characterization results.
