The Use of Knowledge Map Model in Construction Industry

Abstract: Abstract. The construction industry consists of many unstructured documents, which accumulate a large volume of tacit knowledge. In the general domain, a Knowledge Map can illustrate connections of knowledge and transfer tacit knowledge to explicit knowledge, but this is unsuitable on specific domain such as construction industry. This research generalized existing mapping rules to be applied to general and specific domain; and presented a novel and practical model for building knowledge map, named Knowledge Ma… Show more

“…Kinds of KM models such as knowledge-based diagnosis model (Wang et al 2007), knowledge sharing model (Chen 2008), integrative KM model (Kanapeckiene et al 2010;Yin et al 2008), ontology-based design knowledge model (Gao et al 2011), and knowledge map model (Ping Tserng et al 2010;Yun et al 2011) were developed in succession. KM modeling is an indicator which suggests the primary maturity of KM theory in construction.…”

“…-The process of solving problems that has happened before happens again and again because the learning from them is not documented (Tserng, Yin, & Lee, 2010). -They do not have a proper criterion for evaluating knowledge in the work processes.…”

“…In the method, the self-organized map is extended to merge the other peers' documents visually. In order to construct the knowledge map for construction industry, the knowledge map model is constructed to build knowledge map, which includes five steps in the model [25]. The first step is to identify problems.…”
