The use of new technologies in the research of the fluvio-denudation process

Abstract

Modern research of the fluvio-denudation process is keeping pace with numerous technological innovations that enable precise field research and reliable quantification of the intensity of various natural processes. Due to reliable measurements and analyses, physical geographers can determine the intensity of denudation, the change in the morphology of the riverbed and the resulting consequences, carry out bathymetric surveys, determine the sediment balance, etc. In the last 15 years, the development of easily accessible unmanned systems has enabled numerous precise aerial photogrammetry measurements of the earth's surface, which has improved the quantification of the intensity of natural processes and facilitated field research in physical geography. On this basis, enough accurate facts have been obtained to produce completely new results and scientific breakthroughs regarding the causes and intensity of various processes as well as modelling and scenarios of future conditions. The results of modern physical-geographical research are applied in all areas of modern society and represent a very important and indispensable standard for a complex analysis of recent natural conditions, spatial planning and especially in land and water resources protection and conservation. The latest research techniques and results will be presented using various practical examples, including the Kolubara and South Morava river basins in Serbia, Kuklica in North Macedonia and the Drenova reservoir in the Republic of Srpska.
