Abstract

I am an orthopedic surgeon with a focus on hand surgery. After careful reflection, I would like to underline some considerations and discuss some technical tips and pearls.With a little effort, is it possible to equate the metatarsal bone with the metacarpal one. Fracture patterns, types of major fragments, and dimensions of these bones are quite similar, and the internal diameter of external rays (IV and V) is comparable. Recently, some authors proposed the use of intramedullary headless screw fixation (IHSF) as the gold standard in transverse, oblique, and short spiral fractures, as well as select cases of comminuted fractures, in metacarpal bones (2,3).Here, I translate the same concepts from the hand to the foot, even in the case of nonunion.
