The Use of Toothpastes Containing Different Formulations of Fluoride and Bioglass on Bleached Enamel

Abstract: Objectives: To investigate the application of toothpaste either containing calcium sodium phospho-silicate bioglass (NovaMin) or calcium fluorosilicate bioglass (BioMinF) on the surface mineral composition and morphology of enamel after bleaching procedure. Methods: Thirty extracted noncarious human teeth were allocated into five groups (n = 6). Group 1: Bleaching using 40% hydrogen peroxide (HP) and fluoridated toothpaste containing bioactive glass (1450 ppm fluoride). Group 2: Bleaching using 40%HP and tooth… Show more

“…Moreover, an increase in the coating corrosion and ion release is observed with an increase in the concentration of zinc oxide nanoparticles. It is widely recognized that a smaller diameter of the capacitive loop in the Nyquist plots corresponds to a lower polarization resistance, thereby supporting the previously obtained results [30][31][32]. Similar trends are observed in the Bode phase plots (Figure 10b).…”

“…This increase can be attributed to the relatively uniform formation of resin-hydroxyapatite complexes, which fill the voids and spaces in the demineralized zone [20]. In contrast, when bleaching is used as a finishing procedure, enamel composition undergoes significant modification due to the removal of calcium and phosphate, as suggested by Ergucu Z et al [75]. This results in compromised hardness.…”

“…44 SEM evaluation of the enamel surface was required for further clarification of the surface roughness findings and was used by many studies. 11,23,45 The original enamel surface was relatively flat, with smooth enamel surface morphology with minimal porosity incidence seen where the magnification used was 8000x and 15000x was used, as shown in Figure 1. The samples displayed the typical regular enamel pattern, smooth and relatively uniform, with perikymata expressing anatomical horizontal growth lines of enamel without polishing with grit paper.…”

“…Demineralized interprismatic structures connected with demineralized enamel prism cores, create observable deep etched pits. 47 Ergucu et al (2023), 45 and Bilge and Kilic (2021) 11 used SEM to examine the postbleaching surface roughness. They discovered an increase in surface roughness after bleaching with 40% hydrogen peroxide within the same period of our study (3x20 minutes).…”
