“…In the present study, however, the mean intake of fat was almost similar to the mean fat intake observed with the WOR during the pre-test. Food Consumption of Zambian Children JLA Hautvast et al Ferguson et al (1994) and Dop et al (1994) showed in their studies in Ghana and Senegal, respectively, that, the repeated 24-h recall gives results more similar to the weighed observation, in comparison with one recall only. However, they also demonstrated that although the 24 h recall is not suf®ciently accurate to assess individual food intake, it is of use in dietary surveys in groups of children.…”

“…Unlike macronutrient intakes, which are less variable and require fewer days to obtain accurate information, micronutrient intakes are difficult to assess and are subject to high within-person error caused by daily variation around true long-term intake; therefore, several 24-h recalls are required to be accurate (Beaton et al, 1983;Paeratakul et al, 1998). Repeated 24-h recalls were therefore collected as recommended to estimate average intakes for a group and to estimate the percentage of children at risk of inadequate intakes (Ferguson et al, 1994). We conclude that fatty acid intake may have a relationship with growth and stature in children 1-5 years old, although it is difficult to ascertain the impact of fatty acid on growth separately from other nutrients in the presence of inadequate intakes of other nutrients.…”

“…A single 24-h dietary recall interview per subject was used to evaluate intakes from the complementary diet at the group level. The relative validity of this procedure for assessing dietary intakes of preschoolers and pregnant women in Malawi has been published earlier (Ferguson et al, 1989(Ferguson et al, , 1995. Details of the interactive 24-h recall method, interview procedures, food composition database, and data analysis procedures have also been published elsewhere (Ferguson et al, 1995;Gibson & Ferguson, 1999).…”
