The cultural heritage sector has traditionally been concerned with sharing resources and furthering human knowledge, with particular interest to the issues associated with metadata and interoperability, especially when it comes to the use of technology. These goals and interests in the cultural heritage sector are natural alignments with those of linked data; hence. there has been an increasing interest in the application of linked data in this sector. This article studies the implementation of linked data in the cultural heritage sector, through a systematic literature review of case studies of linked data implementation projects in this sector. The results reflect on the parties involved, the level of collaboration, and the motivation behind these projects. The study suggests that universities and national institutions were the main players in implementing such technologies in the cultural heritage sector, suggesting that there may be some barriers preventing smaller GLAM institutions from implementing linked data projects. The results further suggest that many linked data projects in this sector were primarily exploratory projects, and often performed in a collaborative manner. They further indicate that the most common motivating factors behind these projects were research needs, a desire to contribute to linked data as a movement, and other specific user needs. Reflecting on this systematic literature review, this article makes a set of recommendations for future work to increase the use of linked data in the cultural heritage sector and to remove barriers to adoption.

Thesauri are conceptual tools useful to achieve semantic interoperability and reusability, which are relevant goals in the Semantic Web. Thesaurus standards establish, among other issues, the constructs that can appear in a thesaurus. The ISO 25964 standard for thesauri, which supersedes ISO 2788, is the evolution of the ISO thesauri standard to a conceptual approach closer to the Semantic Web. However, it appeared when SKOSthe W3C Recommendation-was already consolidated as the standard for KOS (Knowledge Organization System) representation in the Semantic Web, including thesauri. The evolution from ISO 2788 to ISO 25964, and the relationships between constructs in ISO 2788/ISO 25964 and SKOS, are studied in this paper. From the analysis of this comparison, a methodological framework, that focuses on the construct support, is proposed to evaluate the conformance quality of thesaurus management tools. Target readers are professionals in charge of thesauri edition. A Semantic Web perspective is taken to characterize the effect that using SKOS to represent thesauri can have on the results of the assessment. A proof of concept for the model's feasibility was performed on two tools and the analysis of the results of this experimental validation is presented. The conclusions highlight the model's suitability for assessing conformance to the standards concerning support for thesaurus constructs.

The University of Louisville's Margaret M. Bridwell Art Library is one of the first institutions to employ the Art Libraries Society of North America's Artists' Books Thesaurus (ARLIS/ NA ABT) vocabulary to describe images of artists' books within a CONTENTdm collection. Over the course of three months, the art librarian and a graduate intern worked with multiple stakeholders to build a digital collection designed to reveal unique structures for patron browsing and searching. This article describes the implementation of the project, detailing the process of creating an online artists' books index from inception to the initial upload of final records. Suggestions are offered for future engagement with the ARLIS/NA Artists' Books Thesaurus for digital access to artists' books. introduction Libraries that house artists' books collections often struggle with the competing needs to provide patron access while preserving the collection. Storing books in controlled, secure spaces often results in barriers between the end user and these "invisible" collections.
