Theoretical Comparison of Methods for Modeling Thin Dielectric or Conducting Sheets in the FDTD Grid

Abstract: This paper compares the methods used to account for sheets thinner than the cell size of the FDTD method. The comparison relies on the reflection and transmission of plane waves. It is shown that the Maloney and Smith method is the best. In contrast to the other methods, it provides correct reflection and transmission coefficients for any incidence angle.
