Theoretical Model for Delamination in Elastomers Sandwich

Abstract

When seismic isolator devices are moving large deformations appear and their possible failure can be delamination phenomenon. Mathematically speaking the problem is individualized within the framework of the unilateral contact with adhesion. Therefore, formulating the analytical characterization by means of the variational approach, we see in the equilibrium equation set one or more inequality condition. We investigate about equilibrium conditions after delamination considering the problem with variational approach. Applying the theory of functions of bounded variations and developing it as free-discontinuity problem we find approximate solutions about the sharp energy variation when displacements discontinuity appears.
