Theoretical study of the differential cross section of the ionization of hydrogen (2s) by electron impact

Abstract: A b s h c t Electron impact ionization of hydrogen in its 2s metastable state is investigated theoretically. An ob initio calculation is proposed which includes the carelated double continuum Brauner-Brigs-Klar (BBK) wavefunction. ' The results of this model are compared with those given by the use of the second Born approximation, Some interesting kinematical situations are explored for future experiments.

“…We have recently developed and applied [7] following Brauner Briggs and Klar [ 8] a procedure using the double continuum correlated BBK wave function, which contains by its nature the electron-electron correlation of the final state electrons (10), to the calculations of the triple differential cross section (TDCS) of the ionization of hydrogen in its metastable (2 s) state. Our aim in this paper is to extend, in a first place, this procedure to the determination of the TDCS of the ionization of lithium using a model potential, which takes in consideration the inner electrons, to compare them to existing results [5,6], to study the similarities that should exist with the ionization of the excited hydrogen atoms, and finally to present some favourable kinematical situations for experiments.…”

“…recoil region, while 02(180~ ~ refers to binary region (92 = 180~ 9 In the absence of any experiment we have compared our results at Ei = 250 eV (see fig. 1-4) with the corresponding theoretical results of Vucic et al [3] calculated in the framework of the second Born approximation as well as with the results of Hafid et al [4] who adopted the approach of Briggs et al [7] using three Coulomb wave functions in the final state. It may be mentioned that for positron impact the only available theoretical result is due to Vucic et al [3] for the parameters Ei = 250 eV, E2 = 5 eV, 01 = 5 o (see fig.…”
