Theoretical Study on the Rank of Integral Operators for Broadband Electromagnetic Modeling From Static to Electrodynamic Frequencies

Abstract: To facilitate the broadband modeling of integrated electronic and photonic systems from static to electrodynamic frequencies, we propose an analytical approach to study the rank of the integral operator for electromagnetic analysis, which is valid for an arbitrarily shaped object with an arbitrary electric size. With this analytical approach, we theoretically prove that for a prescribed error bound, the minimal rank of the interaction between two separated geometry blocks in an integral operator, asymptoticall… Show more

“…In this case, one can exploit the fact that G pm admits a low-rank approximation due to the smoothing properties of the Green's function for disjoint objects. The final dimensions of the low-rank approximation of C q→p (for a prescribed accuracy) depend on the electric distance between objects p and m, 178 i.e., G pm ≈ U pm S pm V pm * , where S pm ∈ C l×l , with l ≪ N . The final formula for C q→p after the Cholesky factorization of the singular values matrix (S pm ) is given by…”

“…However, the distance between the distant relative groups in the lower-level groups is also much bigger than the higher-level one which means that the rank of the original matrix will also be smaller than the original dimension. According to the theoretical study in [9], the rank of 3D integral kernel can be described as…”

“…Then, the problem of (ii) transforms into how to estimate the rank r of the original matrix. In [16], Chai and Jiao give the approximation of rank of the 3D EM problem by Rank 3D~O k 0 , where k 0 is the studying wave number. In this paper, the rank is approximated by…”
