Thermal Insulation Composite Prepared from Carbon Foam and Silica Aerogel Under Ambient Pressure

Abstract: Carbon foam/silica aerogel composite as a promising thermal insulation material was prepared under ambient pressure successfully in the present work. Carbon foam was prepared by pretreatment, foaming, and carbonization process, while silica aerogel was synthesized by sol-gel method. The microstructure, morphology characteristics, compression strength, and thermal properties of composite were characterized by infrared spectroscopy, x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, universal testing machine, and … Show more

“…The thermal conductivity of CA/PAA-wrapped SF aerogel fibers was measured as 0.031 W/(m·K), which is lower than SiO 2 -based aerogels [35,36,37]. Meanwhile, the thermal conductivity of the aerogel fiber remains competitive among previous aerogel-based thermal insulation materials, including inorganic aerogels (e.g., SiO 2 -based and carbon aerogels) and organic aerogels (e.g., cellulose and SF-based aerogels) (Figure S4).…”

“…The MCF matrix exhibits its wide acromion close to 813 cm –1 for the carbon skeletons, while SiC/MDCF possesses a peak at 802 cm –1 corresponding to the stretching mode Si–C bond, and the peak at 993 cm –1 shows the feature of the wagging mode C–H bond within SiCH 2 . However, the bands in the blue curve appearing at 1089, 1631, and 3453 cm –1 matched well with the Si–O–Si bonds, O–H bending vibration, and O–H stretching vibration of H–OH and Si–OH bonding, respectively, which further demonstrated the evolution process from MDCF to SiC/MDCF–Aerogel.…”

“…To test their ability to be used as patches, SiO 2 -PVP hydrogels with certain transparency and mechanical properties were prepared by the sol-gel method and used as simulated skin. 22 Then the fibrous membranes were cut to cuboids and stuck on the hydrogels with the same touching area for a period of time as shown in Figure 11a. After some time, drugs encapsulated in the 17%SiO 2 -PVP membranes were transferred from the 17%SiO 2 -PVP membrane to the hydrogels by self-driving.…”
